Live Christmas choir: Derby Choral Union
Sat 13 Dec
Derby Market Hall
About the Event
A lively mix of carols and wintertime favourites
Christmas is coming! And 13th December certainly won’t be a silent night, as we bring you a medley of traditional carols and seasonal favourites. Derby Choral Union have been harking the herald angels for 160 years, and this year we'll also be collecting for Friends of the Baby Unit, a local charity supporting Derby’s Neonatal Unit (www.fobuderby.co.uk).
Why not take a break from watching the flocks and roasting over an open fire: let us wish you a merry little Christmas now.
About Derby Choral Union
Derby Choral Union, Derby's oldest continuous voluntary choir, has a significant historical link to Derby Market Hall. The choir was formed in 1866, spurred by the success of a large-scale performance of Handel's "Messiah" in the newly opened Market Hall on 29 May 1866.
Following the performance, local singers suggested forming a regular choral society and at the invitation of the then Mayor, Frederick Longdon, a meeting was held on 22 Jun 1866 and Derby Choral Union was formed.
Over 150 successful seasons later, and Derby Choral Union is still performing choral music in Derby and beyond.
