About the Event

The Bike Festival will be a day dedicated to showcasing the wide range of cycling opportunities available in and around Derby.

The event will highlight the many benefits of riding a bike while promoting cycling for people of all ages and abilities.

Organisations from across the area will come together to demonstrate their work within the cycling community. Cycle Derby will showcase their community initiatives, including balance bikes for young riders, small cycles, and adapted bikes designed to support people who may face challenges riding a traditional bicycle.

Derby is home to an exceptional range of cycling facilities, and the Derby Arena Velodrome will be promoting its world-class track and the many activities that take place there. The city also features several BMX tracks, and a local BMX rider will be speaking about the sport and opportunities available to get involved.

Local bike shops will be present to display a variety of bicycles and accessories. The world-renowned bicycle manufacturer Mercian Cycles will also be showcasing a selection of their bikes, including some historic models that have travelled the world.

Visitors will also be able to take advantage of bike security marking provided by the local community police.

Cycling charities will be on hand to discuss their work in promoting cycling and developing safer cycling routes, while cycling campaign groups will share their efforts to improve local cycling infrastructure and create a safer environment that encourages more people to ride.

On stage there will be presentations and interviews with some amazing local people who have used the bicycle to achieve some inspiring feats. They will tell us about incredible journeys, record breaking attempts, champions, overcoming personal challenges, recovery, wellbeing and riding for transport. The speakers include:

  • Amy Cycling Adventures - a YouTuber who last year rode the stages of the Tour de France and the transfers
  • Cara Grimwade - a mountain biker who suffered brain injuries from crashes who enjoys personal challenges
  • Laura and Steve Massey-Pugh - Guinness world record holders for riding a tandem around the world
  • Steve Cooke - what the bicycle means to asylum seekers

Come along to learn more about cycling in Derby and beyond, meet people who have overcome personal challenges through cycling, and discover how the bicycle can change lives.

Our aim is to inspire, encourage, and enthuse everyone about cycling.
