What is Derby Market Hall?
Derby Market Hall celebrates the significance of markets within Derby and Derbyshire’s rich cultural heritage and identity.
This "Grand Old Lady" is being lovingly and carefully refurbished as part of wider city centre transformation and is now (almost) ready to re-open.
Facilities include a bar and cosmopolitan food court and market hall, co-work space, gallery and performance space, several meeting rooms.
A seven-days-a-week destination for Derbyshire’s culinary and creative businesses, housing nearly 50 independent traders.
More than a market
The best of Derbyshire
Derby Market Hall will embody what Derby and Derbyshire stand for - reaching into both the history of the region and its current community to capture the spirit and distinctiveness of the region.
Derbyshire, stretching from the edge of the National Forest to the Peak District, is home to an abundance of producers and makers. The market hall is here to celebrate Derby and Derbyshire makers, their passion and talent, imagination and skill.
From farm shops to café tables, home cooks to chef kitchens, there’s a rich diversity of food on offer and Derby Market Hall will bring the cream of the crop into one place.
We will also celebrate the hi-tech industry and commerce of the urban centre that creates space for innovation, creativity and experimentation.
A global approach with a local focus
Bringing the best local stores from the indie neighbourhoods, suburbs and shires into the city centre.
Diverse food practices and ingredients from some of the diverse diaspora (over 145 nationalities) that have made the city and the region their home.
Colourful, cultural, convivial
Local producers, independent makers and creatives alongside street food and drink, music and entertainment, and more all under one roof.
A year-round programme of cultural events and festivals offering an assortment of activities, from live performance, socially engaged projects and hands-on artist-led workshops, that emphasises Derbyshire skills and craft, and the ‘beauty’ in how products are made.
Music, learning and great food. Arts and science workshops, circus school, debates, talks and all sorts of fun for the whole family.
Purpose-driven and independent
Derby Market Hall will use its platform to uplift local businesses, creatives and under-represented groups. With a focus on sustainability, ethics and social value.
The ultimate independent hangout. A market for those who want to shop consciously, who want to support local entrepreneurs, elevate home-grown creatives and see their money making an impact in their town, city and county.
Derby Market Hall offers a return to more traditional, less environmentally destructive, seasonality in food and fashion. A curated selection of established and emerging brands and independent designer-makers, artists, crafters and curators from the worlds of food, fashion, homeware, health and beauty selling beautiful and unique products.
